A disc basket should be sturdy enough to use without fear of it tipping over or collapsing. About 25 to 30 pounds is average for the weight of a disc golf basket.

Some players prefer a portable basket. A portable basket is good for playing ad hoc games at a picnic, the beach, while camping or on any trip. Really, anywhere the mood strikes you.

What would be really cool is playing while on a long road trip. The disc golf game would be much more than a simple 'get out of the car and stretch' sort of thing.

A little explaining is in order. The chains hanging down are called 'disc grabbing chains'. That is exactly what they do, grab any Frisbees thrown at them (Frisbees thrown at the target).

A lighter weight target is probably going to have fewer catch chains. Fourteen is on the low side and usually means that there is only a single layer of chains, but that is enough. Twenty four chains in two layers are better.

However, a single row of heavier chains will probably eliminate the need for two rows of chains.

A professional disk golf basket will have the advantage of folding or telescoping parts, adding to the portable utility of the basket.

All of this is to say that the number of catch chains is not hard and fast.

As they say, practice practice practice. Having one of these set up in your back yard makes practice an easy thing to do. The putting or short game is said to be where the entire game is won or lost. So, practice here really pays off! Back yard basket - highly recommended.

What's really cool is playing this game at night. Discs with lights on them for night playing are required as well as a flashlight to see the target. But trust me, it is uber cool.
